This technique has been recognized since the reign of Sultan Hamengkubuwono VII, the King of Yogyakarta Sultanate, two centuries ago, when he ordered Kembangsongo batik crafters to make batik nitik. Subsequently, from generation to generation, the batik crafters from Kembangsongo inherited a special skill only few master. With amazing skill, the artisans affix meaningful shapes on a sheet. After the big earthquake hit Yogyakarta in 2006. Sekar Nitik Association was established.
