Kain Bentenan

Fabric Sulawesi Utara
Krisma Kain Bentenan, established and managed by the Karema Foundation founded by Mrs. Ony Tambunan Markadi, has consistently preserved the weaving and Bentenan fabric. Bentenan fabric is special because it has played a central role in the life cycle of the Minahasa people since the 7th century. The fabric is made from the wood of a tree called "Fuya" and fibers from pineapple, banana, and bamboo, known as "koffo." This fabric is considered sacred as it is reserved for specific ceremonies and is only used by tribal and religious leaders.
